I really hated the decision at first, but now that I’ve thought about it, I can understand why Shonda killed Lexie off rather than have her leave the show in a different way. Even if Lexie had left the show alive, let’s face it, Chyler Leigh is never coming back to reprise her role, meaning there was no scenario in which Lexie and Mark would have end up together like Shonda wanted. So if we’re going to point blame (which we shouldn’t, but for argument’s sake), Chyler’s choice to leave is what sunk our S.S. Slexie, not Shonda. Not to mention that it made for one of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever seen on television. But this is just my personal opinion.
